“Possible Sibling Match.” The words, printed in black and white, obliterated the familiar landscape of her life. She’d always been an only child. The idea of another sibling, someone sharing her genetic code but not her history, felt utterly wrong.

She stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The world outside mirrored her internal state: grey, blurred, and confusing. She felt an overwhelming sense of displacement, as if she no longer fit anywhere.

She instinctively reached for her phone, but hesitated. Who could she call? Who would understand? Her usual support system seemed distant, unable to bridge the sudden chasm that had opened in her reality.
