Gemotions

The upscale restaurant throbbed with the murmur of conversations and the clinking of glasses. Maya, busing tables to make ends meet, froze. The piano player was starting the familiar intro to her song, "Falling Stars." Her past, the heartbreak, the hope, all the emotions she’d channeled into that song, flooded back. She felt a sharp pain in her chest, the air growing thick. She quickly turned away, busying herself with polishing silverware, anything to avoid the inevitable wave of memories.
