Rain hammered against the window, mirroring the frantic drumming in Daniel’s ears. He hadn’t slept well since finding the album in his grandfather’s study. The leather cover, cracked and worn, felt heavy in his hands.

His grandfather, a man of unwavering principles and staunch conservatism, had always projected an image of perfect rectitude. He'd preached honesty, discipline, and the sanctity of the family. Daniel, raised on these tenets, had tried to emulate them, to fit into the mold.

A faded photograph showed his grandfather, younger, with a woman who wasn't his grandmother. They were embracing beneath a blossoming cherry tree, their faces alight with a tenderness that felt forbidden. The image, a betrayal, left him feeling disoriented, like the ground beneath him had shifted.
