The stale air of the storage unit felt suffocating. David ran a hand through his hair, the fluorescent lights of the room making him feel queasy. He was facing foreclosure, and had to offload anything of value in a desperate attempt to save his home. He had no choice but to sift through boxes of memories.

He found a letter hidden inside an old photo album, a letter addressed to his father. The letter was dated after a massive argument they had, years before. He remembered the pain of that time as a physical wound.

The words, filled with anger and regret, were almost unbearable to read now. David felt a familiar hollowness in his chest, a deep sense of unfulfilled promises. The letter lay limp in his hand, a reminder of the chasm between them.
