The email notification had arrived with the subtlety of a gunshot. Liam recoiled, the screen reflecting a distorted version of his own face. The subject line, "New Listing," was a cruel taunt. He felt a wave of weakness, a sudden inability to stand.

He focused on the kitchen, the familiar layout of the cabinets, the countertop. They were the same. But everything was wrong. He felt a chill despite the warm afternoon light.

He scrolled through the pictures, each one chipping away at his composure. His throat closed, making it difficult to breathe. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but the only sound he made was a choked sigh. He needed to get out, he needed air.
