"Stunning!" a critic declared, his words echoing through the crowded room. Kai swallowed, the words scraping against his throat like grit. He felt as if someone had stolen his skin and put it on display.

His series of self-portraits, a visual exploration of his hidden fears, hung on the walls. Each image, a confession of sorts, laid bare for the world to see. He felt a deep sense of exposure.

He stared at his feet. A strange numbness began to creep through his body. He wanted to scream, to weep, to break free from the suffocating enclosure. He found himself squeezing his hands into fists.
