Gemotions

The email arrived, a polite request from the new family next door. They wished to use a corner of her backyard for their children’s play area. She stared at the screen, the words blurring.

She sank back into her chair, her hands trembling. The thought of noise, laughter, and children on her property was overwhelming. She pressed her lips together, fighting back tears.

She typed a reply, carefully choosing each word. The email was terse, apologetic, and final. It stated that the area was not available for use. She hit send, and the relief was immediate, followed by a hollow feeling.
