Gemotions

The aroma of burnt toast filled the kitchen, a smell that usually sparked memories of her grandmother. Today, however, it only amplified the dull ache in Clara's chest. She had a mountain of things to do, but the motivation to do them evaporated.

Her sister's call the previous night, had left her shaken. "Look at what she's drawing, Clara! It's…it's him. Isn't it?" The drawings, sent via a frantic email, lay on the counter, staring back at her. The tall, thin figure with the oversized head.

She picked up the drawings, her fingers tracing the crude lines. The world around her seemed to tilt, the familiar ground beneath her feet shifting. She felt adrift, lost in a sea of overwhelming emotions, a place she hadn't been in decades.
