"This is ridiculous," Michael muttered, the words escaping him before he could stop them. He ran a hand over his stubbled chin, feeling the scratch of the rough hairs. He paced back and forth in the cramped gate area, his frustration mounting with each passing minute. The airport felt more like a prison cell than a travel hub. The international flight meant he would be late for his daughter's graduation.

He glanced at his watch again, as if willing the hands to move faster. The ceremony would start soon. He closed his eyes and saw her smiling face, the one he had dreamed of capturing in a photograph. He felt a deep, gnawing sense of disappointment.
