The silence in the dorm room was a palpable thing, heavy and suffocating. David sat hunched over his laptop, the words on the screen blurring before his eyes. The accusations, the dismissals, the weight of the institution, all pressing down on him. He felt every muscle in his body tense.

He’d tried to explain, to reason, to defend himself, but the words felt hollow and inadequate. The effort of speaking, of thinking, of just *being* in this situation was like wading through molasses. He ran a hand over his face, feeling the rough stubble of his beard. He barely had the energy to eat, sleep, or even breathe.

He wanted to scream at the injustice of it all, but the sound caught in his throat. He just wanted it to be over, to wake up and discover it was all a bad dream. It felt like his own future was being stolen.
