The courtroom was vast and intimidating, the harsh fluorescent lights casting long shadows. Chloe felt small and insignificant as she sat at the defendant's table. She kept her gaze fixed on her hands, unable to meet the accusatory stares. Her jaw ached from clenching it so tight.

The lawyer’s words seemed to echo in the cavernous space. The process, the evidence, the witnesses… it felt like an endless, exhausting ordeal. She felt a cold dread creeping into her bones.

She longed for the simplicity of the past, the days before the accusations, before the scrutiny. The prospect of explaining herself, of fighting for her reputation, felt like an insurmountable obstacle. She was utterly deflated.
