Gemotions

The champagne flute felt heavy in Amelia's hand, a physical manifestation of the day stretching before her. All the vibrant colours of the wedding felt muffled, as if filtered through a thick fog. She'd chosen a spot near the back, by the bar, figuring it was the least disruptive place to simply... exist.

She saw him then, across the crowded dance floor. Ethan. He was laughing, the sound echoing in the cavernous room, and for a painful moment, Amelia felt the hollowness in her chest grow. She took a large gulp of the champagne, the bubbles doing little to lighten the burden she carried.

His eyes met hers, and a flicker of what she thought might have been surprise crossed his face. He began to make his way towards her, and Amelia considered feigning a sudden need to find the bathroom.
