The email sat in the inbox, a digital dagger. "Event cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances." Sarah stared at the screen, the bright light assaulting her eyes. She hadn't slept well in weeks. The weight of everything seemed to be pressing down on her, the mundane tasks, the demanding job, the ever-present loneliness. She rubbed her temples, trying to ward off the throbbing headache that was starting. She considered just shutting down the computer and curling up into a ball on the floor.
