Gemotions

Rain slicked the street, mirroring the gloom in Daniel's heart. Every step felt like wading through molasses. The yard sale sign, flapping precariously in the wind, barely registered as he trudged past. He wasn’t looking for anything, just existing. The weight of his recent losses seemed to have settled into his bones, making each movement a Herculean effort.

Then, a flicker of something… familiar. Tucked amongst a pile of chipped teacups and faded books, was a bear. His bear. The one he’d named Mr. Snuggles. The fur was matted, his once vibrant blue bow tie faded and frayed. A strange, almost suffocating, feeling rose in his chest.

He felt the sudden, desperate urge to sit. "How much?" His voice was a rasp, as if unused for a long time. The woman behind the folding table, her face etched with a lifetime of experience, replied, "Five dollars. He looks like he’s seen some love." Daniel nodded slowly, pulling a damp five from his pocket. He just wanted to be still for a little bit.
