Gemotions

The air hung thick and humid, a stifling blanket on Coach Williams's shoulders. The practice field, usually a source of energy, felt desolate. He had to tell Alex. The responsibility felt immense, crushing.

He sat on the damp grass, the moisture seeping through his clothes. He ran a hand over his face, trying to erase the fatigue that seemed etched onto his skin. He saw Alex approaching, a hesitant smile on his face. The boy didn't know yet.

He gestured to a nearby bench, and they both sat, and the silence began. He knew that any words he said would sound hollow. He opened his mouth, but the words wouldn't come. He just reached out and put a hand on Alex's shoulder, a gesture of unspoken regret. Alex looked down at his shoes, then back at the Coach, and he just nodded.
