The gym felt stifling, the stale air thick with the smell of sweat and disinfectant. He was supposed to be running laps, but his legs felt like lead weights. The physical education class had become a constant source of discomfort. He longed for the end of the day.

A new follower request on Snapchat. Mr. Jones, his P.E. teacher. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck. His Snapchat stories were full of mundane moments, things he found amusing. He was tired of having to always put on a performance. Now, he felt exposed.

“Alright, let’s get those laps in,” Mr. Jones boomed, his voice echoing in the gym. He felt his shoulders slump. He sighed and began to jog.
