The sterile white walls of the hospital room seemed to close in on her. She felt drained, as if every ounce of energy had been siphoned away. She was supposed to text her husband, offering him reassurance. Instead, the message she'd sent read, "It's all too much." It was addressed to her doctor. The weight of her circumstances pressed upon her, a physical manifestation of her interior state. She rubbed her temples, trying to ward off the throbbing headache that had taken root.
