The familiar scent of earth and leaves, a staple for her memories, was now replaced by nothingness. Her steps faltered, her energy drained. The empty space was a brutal reminder of the change. She should have known, she thought, the realization echoing in the silent street.

She’d spent months, years, trying to keep those moments alive, and yet, they were gone. Her gaze drifted upward, as if searching for an explanation in the sky. All she found was emptiness, a mirror of the feelings consuming her.
