He sat in the park, the crisp autumn air doing little to refresh him. He’d learned of a sister, a woman he had never heard of, and he felt a profound sense of… resignation. The leaves falling from the trees seemed to mirror the slow, inevitable shedding of a life he thought he knew.

He watched the children playing, their laughter a sharp contrast to his own internal quietude. He just wanted the world to stop, to give him a moment's peace. He felt so very fragile. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and he felt the chill of the coming winter in his bones.
