Gemotions

The constant noise of the school building felt suffocating. Mr. Henderson leaned back in his chair, trying to alleviate the tension in his neck. The day had been long, each lesson a battle against apathy. The faces of his students, once filled with curiosity, now looked bored, glazed. He felt the familiar, heavy resignation creep over him.

A large, overflowing basket of freshly baked goods had been left on his desk. A note attached read, "From your favourite former students. You were the only teacher who made us laugh. - The History Club." The aroma of cinnamon and sugar filled the air. He took a bite of a warm cookie, the sweetness somehow restorative. A small smile slowly tugged at his lips.
