Gemotions

He stared at the envelope, unopened, resting on the kitchen counter, next to the flowers. A huge, ostentatious arrangement of birds of paradise. Exotic. Vibrant. Disturbing. No sender. He hadn't slept properly in days, and the world seemed to be closing in around him.

He moved slowly, a weight pressing down on his chest. His hands trembled as he poured a cup of coffee. The steam rose, but the warmth did little to chase away the chill that had settled deep within him. He sat at the table, the bright flowers casting long, distorted shadows across the room, and closed his eyes.
