"Daniel Hayes: A Life in Pictures" lay open on the kitchen counter, illuminated by the harsh fluorescent light. Daniel stood frozen, his hand still on the kettle. He felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. The book, a lavishly illustrated coffee-table tome, was filled with photographs – photographs of *him* at various stages of his life. He hadn’t posed for any of them.

He swallowed hard, his throat dry. His hands began to shake uncontrollably. He backed away from the counter, his gaze fixated on the images. Every memory, every secret, laid bare. He turned away from the book and stumbled outside into the cold night air, the images burned into his brain. He needed to get away, to find somewhere he could be alone.
