A bead of sweat trickled down Sarah's temple, tracing a path through the meticulously applied makeup. Her fingers, usually steady as she dealt with her patients, fumbled with her purse. It felt like her heart was trying to escape her chest, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. She kept repeating her grandmother's words: "Promise me, darling. Promise me you'll find it."

The shop was a chaotic mess of glittering trinkets and dusty furniture. She stepped forward, her breath catching in her throat as she spotted the familiar sparkle. She knew the design; the delicate engraving of a bird in flight. It was her grandmother's ring.

She addressed the gruff man behind the counter, her voice barely a whisper. "May I...see that ring?" She hoped the tremor in her voice wasn't obvious. The air was thick, heavy, pressing down on her. The man grudgingly obliged, and as she held the ring, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her.
