"Hey, Liam, you alright?" Sarah asked, her voice filled with concern. Liam just shrugged, his gaze fixed on the cracked pavement beneath his feet. He felt a dull ache in his temples, a pressure that seemed to intensify with each passing moment. He couldn't meet her eyes.

He’d been so confident. So certain. Now, his carefully constructed plans were crumbling around him like a poorly built sandcastle. He kicked at a loose stone, sending it skittering across the sidewalk. "Yeah," he managed, his voice barely a whisper. He wanted to go home, to be alone, but he knew he couldn't. Not yet.
