The coach's words felt like a punch to the gut. Emily, the team's top goal scorer, was now going to be a defender. Her stomach twisted, a knot of unease tightening with each passing second. She was being asked to change what she was known for.

She walked onto the field, her usual confidence replaced by a hollow sensation. As she ran, her legs felt like lead. She tripped over the ball several times, drawing quick glances from the other players.

She barely spoke to anyone during the water break. She retreated to a corner of the bench, staring at the ground, overwhelmed. Her hands were clammy.
