Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed into the living room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah sat on the couch, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. Across the room, her friend, Emily, was chatting animatedly on the phone, seemingly carefree. They were both waiting for the results of the same job application.

She couldn’t share her feelings with Emily, not really, not without feeling like she was admitting weakness. The silence of the apartment felt heavy, broken only by the occasional chatter from the TV.

Her hands felt clammy. She got up and walked over to the window, the movement feeling somehow clumsy and disconnected. The neighborhood looked completely normal, as if nothing special was happening.
