He’d been acting odd for days. Liam, her partner of five years, had retreated, his eyes darting around the room, always seeming to be listening for something. She found herself clutching her own phone, repeatedly checking for messages, even though she knew there wouldn't be any. A coldness settled in her bones as she overheard a muffled conversation from the bedroom.

The familiar scent of his aftershave usually filled the air, a comfort she took for granted. Now, it felt suffocating. Tonight, he had left the bathroom door open and she saw his phone on the counter. She felt a magnetic pull towards it, despite the guilty feeling it gave her. A sense of apprehension coiled in her gut. She resisted the urge and went back to the couch.
