The scent of his cologne, once a comfort, now felt like a taunt. She sat in the living room, listening to the muffled sounds coming from the study – a low voice, the rustle of papers, the click of the phone being hung up. A knot formed in her throat, making it difficult to swallow. She had the feeling of being trapped, both in the apartment and in something much bigger.

She picked up a magazine, but the words blurred before her eyes. Every beat of her heart felt too loud, every breath too shallow. She wanted to scream.
