"Oh, *hell* no," Leo muttered, his voice barely a whisper. He glared at the screen, the cursor blinking mockingly near the name of his former tormentor, Brenda. He felt a prickling sensation on the back of his neck, as if she were somehow watching him. He reached for his water, and drank with a hurried sense of thirst.

He took a sharp breath, trying to dispel the memories that flooded his mind. The taunts, the shoves, the constant feeling of being less than. He stood up, pacing the small confines of his apartment. His steps were erratic.

He felt a sudden and urgent need to change the subject. To move to something different. To do anything other than think about the girl whose name still had the power to make his hands clammy. He opened a new tab and started researching a completely unrelated topic.
