"Hey, you alright?" Mark's manager, Susan, had noticed his distracted state all morning. Mark shrugged, forcing a smile. “Fine, just a bit… preoccupied.”

He'd spent the entire morning staring at the screen, unable to complete a single task. He was usually so on the ball, so focused. The shock of finding out that Jessica, who he had trained, was paid more, had rattled him.

He felt a sudden heat rise in his cheeks. He needed to get out, he thought. To clear his head. He excused himself, citing a need for a breath of fresh air, as he walked to the door his palms were sweating.
