Gemotions

The silence of the yard sale was deafening. The only sound was the sporadic chirping of crickets. Thomas had been avoiding this particular sale; he had been putting it off all week. But he had to be here. He had a debt to pay. The sight of the bear, its fur matted and worn, sent a cold shiver down his spine.

He felt a sudden ache in his chest, a deep and unshakeable sadness. He didn't know why, it was just the feeling he had had all week. His gaze lingered on the bear. Its button eyes were chipped, but they seemed to fix him with a stare, making him want to disappear.

"How much?" he asked, his voice rough, barely audible. He was desperate to finish what he started, and this feeling of anticipation and doom was overwhelming.
