The drive to the house had been silent. Now, standing at the foot of the overgrown driveway, Evelyn felt a pressure building in her chest. She fiddled with the strap of her bag, her fingers clumsy. This was a place of painful memories.

Her brother, James, was already halfway up the overgrown path, his shoulders hunched. She knew he was probably replaying his own difficult memories.

The front door looked heavy, like it was guarding something she didn't want to uncover. She felt as though she might simply fade away.
