The key scraped in the lock, and David cautiously entered the room. His heart hammered against his ribs. His journal, always hidden, was now in plain sight, sitting on top of his pillow. His stomach churned.

He scanned the room. His roommate, Kevin, was absent. That somehow made it worse. He felt a frantic urge to rearrange things, to erase any trace of what had happened. He picked up the journal, flipping through the pages, unable to bear the thought of someone else knowing what was inside.

He dropped the journal back down on the pillow. He felt a wave of dizziness, and had to grip the edge of the desk to steady himself. He needed air. He left the room, slamming the door behind him.
