The cardboard box sat on the doorstep, a silent, accusing presence. Sarah squinted at the faded address label. Definitely not her name. The previous tenant, a Mr. Henderson, was a shadowy figure she'd never met. She picked up the package, her fingers prickling as if charged with static electricity.

Her breath hitched as she brought the box inside. She shouldn't have done that. Setting it on the kitchen table, she circled it, unable to look away. Why had it been delivered here? What could it contain? She found herself pacing the length of the kitchen, her steps quick and uneven.

Suddenly, a sharp rapping at the front door startled her so badly she jumped. She peeked through the peephole. A delivery driver, looking impatient. She swallowed hard, opening the door a crack. "Yes?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. "Did you forget something?"
