Gemotions

Eliza’s vision blurred as she read the message. The font seemed to dance on the screen. She blinked repeatedly, as though trying to clear her vision of the unsettling information. This scholarship was her ticket. The one thing that allowed her to follow her dreams.

She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. The sudden action jarred her, but the abruptness of it was satisfying. The apartment, normally filled with the vibrant colors of her artwork, felt sterile and cold.

She walked over to her easel, staring at the unfinished canvas. She’d been working on a new series, inspired by the city around her. Now, the brush felt heavy in her hand, the colors dull.
