“What do you mean, it’s a mistake?” Aisha demanded, her voice sharp despite her attempts to sound calm. She stood in the financial aid office, her palms slick with sweat. The receptionist’s bland explanation only served to heighten her agitation.

She leaned against the counter, suddenly feeling faint. She hadn’t slept well for days, and the constant stress had taken its toll. She felt lightheaded, her ears ringing. She gripped the edge of the counter to steady herself.
