"Unbelievable," Clara hissed under her breath. She reread the email, her fingers tracing the words on the screen. The scholarship she'd been awarded was in error, they said. The thought of losing it made her head spin. She felt a burning sensation in her stomach.

She slammed her laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in her otherwise quiet room. She got up and began to pace. Every step felt hurried, impatient. She ran her hands through her hair, desperate for some kind of clarity.

The books on her shelves, once sources of comfort, now seemed to mock her. She felt overwhelmed, the weight of the situation pressing down on her. She needed to tell someone, to confide in someone, but the thought of sharing her distress made her feel even worse.
