Maya’s fingers fumbled with her phone, almost dropping it as she scrolled through her Instagram feed. She hadn't posted anything particularly scandalous, just the usual: selfies with friends, pictures of her cat, and a couple of memes. But the pit in her stomach tightened. Mr. Henderson, her history teacher, was now following her. She double-tapped the screen, then quickly removed the notification before anyone could see.

Her breath hitched. She kept glancing at the classroom door as she doodled in her notebook during history class the next day. Every casual glance from Mr. Henderson felt like an interrogation. She was utterly flustered when he asked her a question about the French Revolution, her voice barely a whisper.
