The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Amelia's throat as she hauled down a box labeled "Memories." Her hands trembled slightly as she lifted the lid, revealing faded photographs and forgotten trinkets. Nestled at the bottom, a folded piece of paper caught her eye. It was addressed to her own mother, in a handwriting she barely recognized. Unfolding it, she read the childish scrawl, the ink now brittle and pale. Her stomach clenched. She'd been a teenager, filled with a sense of impending doom about a school trip.

The letter detailed her anxieties about leaving home, the fear of not fitting in, the unspoken ache of feeling unseen. She’d never actually posted it. Now, decades later, the words echoed a feeling that still lingered, a phantom limb of unease. A sigh escaped her, carrying a weight she hadn't realized she was still shouldering.
