"They're selling the company?" I blurted, my voice cracking slightly. I'd been expecting the news, but the reality hit me like a physical blow. A cold dread seeped into my bones.

I ran a hand through my hair, a nervous habit I hadn't realized I still did. My palms were clammy. I felt a sudden urge to flee, to escape this building, this situation.

I stared at the half-finished coffee on my desk, suddenly unable to take another sip. The familiar taste, once comforting, now felt bitter. My future, once clear, was suddenly clouded by a thick, impenetrable fog.
