The restaurant's lively atmosphere faded away as David stared at his phone. He'd just accidentally sent a very unflattering picture of his ex-girlfriend to her father. The picture was intended for his best friend. He could feel the blood drain from his face.

His breath hitched in his throat. He felt lightheaded. He imagined the fury in his ex's father's eyes.

He ran a hand through his hair, dislodging a few strands. He imagined a very awkward phone call, or worse, a visit from the man. David felt a growing sense of panic.

He considered turning his phone off, but knew that would only delay the inevitable. He squeezed his eyes shut.
