The sudden darkness was a physical blow to Amelia. She recoiled, pressing herself against the back of the elevator. The silence that followed was deafening. Her gaze darted to David, her usually unflappable colleague. He seemed just as taken aback.

Her hands began to tremble. Her breath became shallow and rapid, a series of short, quick gasps. She clutched at her chest, a phantom pain blossoming beneath her fingers. “We need to get out of here,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

David tried to make some small talk, but she couldn't focus. Her mind raced with catastrophic scenarios. Every creak of the elevator car sent a fresh jolt of fear through her. She felt a growing pressure inside her head, a dull throb that intensified with each passing second.

She hugged herself, rubbing her arms. The cold metal walls pressed against her, and she felt a wave of nausea.
