Gemotions

The elevator came to a jarring halt, and Ben felt a jolt of anxiety. He turned to look at Emily, who was already staring back at him, her face pale. He swallowed hard. “Well, this is just great,” he said, his voice sounding thin and strained.

He pulled out his phone, a reflex more than a real hope. His fingers fumbled with the screen. He kept re-checking the lack of a signal.

The silence was broken only by the sound of his own shallow breaths. He started to pace the small space, the movement adding to his sense of unease. He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end.

His palms were slick with sweat. He struggled to keep his thoughts in order. He had to be calm.
