The air in the office felt thick, heavy with anticipation. Mike found himself unable to concentrate on the project at hand. His mind kept drifting back to the upcoming review. The promotion was a big deal. The tension he was experiencing was a physical weight, pressing down on his chest.

He kept glancing at his watch, the seconds ticking by with agonizing slowness. He knew Carol, his colleague, was equally determined. The silent competition was almost more difficult than the work itself. He walked towards the window and stared at the park outside.
