The aroma of freshly baked cookies from the office potluck filled the air, but it did nothing to soothe Thomas's unease. He watched Emily approach the table, and he felt a cold dread settle in his gut. He knew that she had been a counselor.

He picked at a cookie, his appetite vanishing. He remembered the time he had fallen from the high rope course, and the mortification that followed. The memory burned in his mind.

He quickly found himself trapped. What if she asked questions? What if she remembered the incident? He had to get out of there. He slipped away without a word.
