From within a sealed trunk, she located the letter, the paper brittle and yellowed with age. The document was a draft resignation letter from her mother. The signature looked different, unfamiliar. The words spoke of a life she barely recognized, filled with decisions she had never known about.

She sat on the floor, the cold wood seeping through her clothes. The room was dark, lit only by the faint light filtering in through the crack in the door. A coldness spread through her veins. She felt a profound sense of isolation, a sudden and overwhelming detachment from everything around her.

She folded the letter, then unfolded it. A knot formed in her stomach. She felt a desperate need to comprehend what was now in her hand. The words were a puzzle, and she didn't know the answer.
