The drive to the clinic had been a blur. She kept replaying the phone call in her head, the appointment confirmation, the name. It felt unreal, like a cruel joke. Her jaw clenched, and her vision began to blur.

Pulling into the parking lot, her stomach plunged. She felt as though she’d been plunged into a cold pool.

The thought of confiding in the person who once treated her so poorly now seemed absurd. She parked the car and, with great difficulty, opened the door, and stepped out.

She thought she might be sick.
