"C-? But… how?" Mark’s voice was barely a whisper. He’d poured his soul into the project. He felt a deep unease. He ran the back of his hand across his forehead, wiping away a sudden sheen of perspiration. He’d envisioned himself aceing this.

His apartment, usually a haven, now felt oppressive. The sunlight streaming through the blinds seemed mocking. He wanted to go for a run, to expel the tension coiled inside him, but the thought of facing the outside world, of potentially encountering someone who knew his grade, stopped him. He stared at his laptop screen, mind blank.
