The doorbell chimed, a cheerful sound that felt utterly foreign to Amelia. Her breath hitched. She peeked through the peephole to see a delivery person holding a bouquet of vibrant lilies. She clutched the edge of the counter, knuckles white. No name. No indication. Just a riot of color that somehow felt…threatening. Her stomach churned.

She accepted the flowers, the fragrant scent suddenly overpowering. They were beautiful, undeniably. But who? She’d been so careful. Her gaze darted to the locked windows, the security system blinking a reassuring green. Still, the feeling remained; a cold knot in the pit of her stomach that refused to loosen.
