A tremor ran through David's hands as he folded the paper carefully. It was tucked inside Emily’s favourite book, a well-worn copy of “Pride and Prejudice.” He’d stumbled upon it while dusting the shelves, a task he’d taken on while she was away on her business trip.

*Go skydiving.* That one jumped out at him, bold and unapologetic. Emily hated heights. He reread the whole list, items meticulously numbered, each one a whisper of a life he barely knew.

His heart pounded. He sat down heavily on the floor, the book clutched in his lap. The air in the room felt suddenly thin. He hadn’t felt this unsettled since… since the day he’d met her. The possibility that she might be yearning for something beyond him felt like a physical blow.
